The COGNIA Project

Welcome to the Cognitive Neurorehabilitation through Innovative Assistive Technologies (COGNIA) homepage!

We support individuals living with cognitive challenges in Nottingham.

Do you find it hard to plan, remember, or organise your day? We are looking for volunteers who are living with cognitive challenges. Difficulties with everyday “thinking skills” can significantly impact daily activities, reducing independence and negatively affecting quality of life.

We provide practical support through technology and behavioural strategies.

Our goal is to create simple, personalised ways to make everyday life easier and more enjoyable. We consider a mix of technological and behavioural solutions to be a flexible and cost-effective way to help. We interpret support broadly: We might recommend a particular smartphone app, suggest smart home components, help you build a new daily routine, or just work with visual or auditory reminders. What matters is that a solution works for you!

Our support is completely free.

We are a team of researchers and practitioners from the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, Linden Lodge Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit and the charity Headway Nottingham.

We’re not affiliated with any companies and are not trying to sell anything. We are conducting a study to understand how people manage everyday tasks when “thinking skills” are difficult. Because we are doing research, we want to find out if the solutions we suggest actually help you.

If you experience cognitive challenges, or care for someone who does, contact us.

Please note: We are studying mental and thinking skills. This study is not looking at difficulties caused primarily by physical challenges (e.g., eyesight, hearing, or movement issues).

If you’re unsure if the project is suitable for you or a loved one, you can find more details on our What to Expect page.
